The £46 Billion Investment Pipeline Shaping Aberdeen
Energy, digital infrastructure and regeneration point towards a broader future for the North-East economy

Aberdeen has spent decades being known around the world as an energy city.

Now a reported £46.3 billion investment pipeline across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire offers a glimpse of how the next chapter could look.

The projects span energy, digital technology, transport, housing, tourism, healthcare, education and regeneration.

Among the largest proposals are major electricity transmission investment and a proposed multibillion-pound AI data-centre campus at Blackdog.

It is important to distinguish a pipeline from money already spent.

Individual projects sit at different stages of planning, funding and development, and not every proposal is guaranteed to proceed exactly as first envisaged.

Even so, the breadth of the plans tells an interesting story about the direction of the regional economy.

Oil and gas remain hugely important, but digital infrastructure, electricity networks, renewables, tourism and city regeneration could increasingly sit alongside traditional energy.

For residents, the most meaningful measure will not be the headline billions but what the investment produces locally.

That means sustainable jobs, opportunities for local businesses and reasons for young people to build their futures in the North-East.

Aberdeen has reinvented its economy before.

The question now is how much of this investment pipeline can turn into visible projects, lasting employment and wider prosperity.

Where do you see Aberdeen’s biggest opportunity over the next ten years?
