Meet Aberdeen’s Next Generation of Musicians
More than 2,000 young people are receiving weekly tuition through the city’s Music Service

Behind classroom doors and inside rehearsal rooms across Aberdeen, thousands of young people are discovering what it means to make music.

More than 2,000 children and young people are receiving weekly tuition through Aberdeen City Council’s Music Service, with thousands more involved in wider music-making opportunities.

It is an impressive figure, but the numbers only tell part of the story.

Music gives young people opportunities to perform, collaborate, build confidence and master something that can initially feel difficult.

Not every pupil picking up an instrument needs to become a professional musician for that experience to matter.

For some, the achievement might be a first performance in front of an audience.

For others, it may be joining an ensemble, making new friends or discovering an interest that lasts a lifetime.

The city’s programme continues to showcase school pupils through concerts and events, including an Aberdeen City Music Service performance at Cowdray Hall on 8th October.

A city’s future is not measured only in buildings, investment figures and construction projects.

It is also reflected in the opportunities given to its young people.

Somewhere among Aberdeen’s young musicians could be a future performer, composer, teacher or simply someone who will enjoy making music for decades.

Do you know a talented young Aberdeen musician, singer, ensemble or music teacher whose story deserves to be told?
