Is Aberdeen About to Get Its Beach Back?
The beachfront transformation is taking shape as the new beach park moves towards completion

For generations of Aberdonians, the beach has been one of the city’s great natural assets.

Now a very different Aberdeen beachfront is taking shape as major improvements move towards completion.

At the heart of the transformation are the new beach park and events field, part of the wider City Centre and Beach Masterplan.

This is far more than a cosmetic makeover.

The park includes areas for sport, adventure and play, with the distinctive Rope Factory climbing structure among its most eye-catching features.

The design takes inspiration from Aberdeen’s rope-making history and has been shaped with input from local children and young people.

Alongside it, the events field is intended to provide space for festivals, concerts and community gatherings.

The scale of the work is now much easier to appreciate on the ground.

There is a bigger idea behind the project too: reconnecting the beach with the city centre.

A clearer pedestrian and cycle connection along Beach Boulevard is intended to help residents and visitors move more naturally between central Aberdeen and the seafront.

The real test will come when the construction fences disappear and the space becomes part of everyday city life.

Will families spend more time there, will events bring new visitors, and will surrounding businesses benefit?

After years of talking about the potential of Aberdeen Beach, residents are finally getting the chance to see what a substantially reimagined beachfront can become.

Would the new-look beach encourage you to spend more time there?
